Beautiful Puerto Jimenez is located on the Osa
Peninsula, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Although PJ
dates back to 1914, the town boomed in the 1960s
when logging began and gold was discovered. Both
industries calmed down when electricity came in the
1990s and tourists followed.
Currently, Puerto Jimenez is best described as a sleepy tourist town. The town caters primarily to adventurous tourists heading to the remarkable Corcovado National Park and its surrounding natural marvels (for more info). However, much is to be said for the town itself with its overgrown mangroves (pic above) and expansive gulf filled with such wildlife as dolphins, whales and stingrays. Also, the pristine and often deserted Playa Platanares is located a mere 5km from town.
There are numerous outlets for nightlife, especially on weekends. Several bars and restaurants give guests choices in cuisine and entertainment. Also, fiestas and concerts are not uncommon and easy to find. Rodeos commence nightly during holiday times.
Fortunately, Bosque Mar is at the center of the action just one block from main street, two blocks from the gulf and three blocks from the airport. The hotel is located one block from two different internet cafe and has a restaurant just next door. This prime downtown location is hard, if not impossible, to beat.
